Air-dry running shoes away from direct heat. Radiators, car heaters and direct sun stiffen adhesives and distort foam, which shortens the life of a shoe faster than the running does. Removing the insoles helps them dry through properly after a wet run.
If you are stepping up distance, do it before you change shoes rather than at the same time. Two variables at once makes it impossible to tell which one caused a niggle, and new shoes get blamed for training errors more often than they deserve.
