Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between running shoes and training shoes?

Running shoes are built for repeated forward impact and usually have a taller, softer midsole for cushioning. Training shoes sit lower and firmer to give a stable base for lifting and lateral work, because a tall soft midsole compresses unevenly under load. If your session is mostly weights, a training shoe is the safer base.

Are shoe sizes the same across brands?

No. The US, UK and EU figures on each product page are the manufacturer's own and are not interchangeable. The same nominal size can fit noticeably differently between two brands, and sometimes between two ranges from one brand. Use a size you know as a starting point, then check it against that model's size run.

Do you sell genuine branded shoes?

Yes. We are an independent retailer rather than an authorised stockist or agent for any brand, and we do not present ourselves as one. The products are made by the brands named on them, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply to everything we sell, and our warranty page explains how we handle claims.

Men's shoes, by what you need them for

Pick the category, then the model

The range is grouped by use because that is the choice that matters: running, basketball, court, training, football, outdoor, casual and canvas and skate. A running shoe and a training shoe look similar and behave differently under load; a court outsole and a trail outsole are built for opposite surfaces.

The short version of each

Fit, regardless of category

Leave about a thumb's width at the toe, with weight on the foot. Get the width right before adjusting length, since a longer shoe adds room at the front rather than across the foot. Fit late in the day, when feet are at their largest, and with the socks you will actually wear. Sizes on each page are the manufacturer's own and differ between brands, so treat a size that fits you elsewhere as a starting point.

Gear & Gate is an independent retailer. The footwear here is designed and made by the brands whose names appear on it, and we are not an authorised stockist or agent for any of them. Our FAQ explains how that affects warranty claims.
