Carry-On Luggage

Hard-shell cabin cases, a wheeled duffle and travel bags sized for short trips without checking a bag.

Seven options for taking everything on board. Four are suitcases or duffles: the Glide Lite Carry-On at 2.0kg, the Glide Carry-On Pro with a front laptop pocket and USB port, the top-opening Glide Elite Carry-On Pro with ZeroRoll wheel brakes, and the soft Metro Carry-On Duffle on inline skate wheels.

If you prefer to carry, the Weekender Travel Bag holds 22L and opens flat, and the Road Warrior Backpack takes 28 litres with an 8L expander. The Commuter Trolley Backpack does both, switching between a 27L backpack and a two-wheel trolley.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What size carry-on is allowed in Australia?

Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia all publish 56 x 36 x 23cm as the maximum cabin bag size, measured including wheels and handles. Weight limits vary: Qantas allows 14kg across three items on domestic jets, Virgin allows 8kg, and Jetstar currently allows 7kg for two bags combined. Regional turboprop services are typically 7kg with smaller lockers. Check your airline before you fly, because these change.

Which of your carry-on bags actually fit the cabin limit?

The Glide Lite Carry-On (54.5 x 34.5 x 20.5cm), Road Warrior Backpack (47 x 32 x 20cm) and Weekender Travel Bag (28 x 47 x 17cm) all sit inside 56 x 36 x 23cm. The Glide Elite Carry-On Pro is exactly on the limit at 56 x 35.5 x 23cm. The Glide Carry-On Pro, Metro Carry-On Duffle and Commuter Trolley Backpack each exceed it on one side, and we say so on their product pages.

Does the empty weight of the case matter?

Yes, and more than most people expect. Where a weight limit applies, the bag's own weight is counted before anything goes in it. A 3.2kg case on a 7kg international Economy allowance leaves you 3.8kg. On a 14kg Qantas domestic allowance the same case matters much less. Match the case to the flights you actually take.

Choosing carry-on luggage in Australia

Start with the box, not the bag

Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia all publish the same maximum cabin bag size: 56 x 36 x 23cm, measured including wheels and packed-away handles. Weight limits differ far more than size does, and the aircraft matters more than the airline: a QantasLink Dash 8 or a Rex SAAB 340 drops you to 7kg with smaller lockers. Our guide to Australian carry-on limits sets out what each carrier allows.

What fits, and what does not

We publish the manufacturer's external dimensions for every case, including the ones that do not clear the standard box, because finding out at the gate is expensive.

The empty weight decides what you can pack

On a 7kg flight the case itself comes out of your allowance first. The Glide Lite uses 2.0kg of it; the Glide Elite Carry-On Pro uses 3.2kg, leaving 3.8kg for everything you own. If you fly regional routes or international Economy, weight is the constraint that bites, not volume.

Wheels, or on your back

Four-wheel spinner cases push upright beside you and suit airports and smooth floors. Two-wheel bags and wheeled backpacks tilt and pull, and cope better with kerbs, gravel and stairs. A backpack carries hands-free but puts the weight on you, which is the right trade for train travel and awkward accommodation.
