Get the width right before you adjust the length. If the upper strains over the midsole or the sides of your foot feel compressed, the shoe is too narrow, and buying a longer size only adds space at the toe while the pressure across the foot stays exactly where it was.
Running shoes work for treadmill sessions and general cardio, but a soft, tall midsole is an unstable base for lifting, because the foam compresses unevenly under load. If most of a session involves weights, a flatter training shoe is the safer platform.
