Everyday shoes are not court or running shoes, and using them for repeated running or hard lateral movement wears them through quickly. They are built for walking and standing, which is what most feet spend most of their time doing.
A shoe that feels soft in the shop is not the same as a shoe that is comfortable at six in the evening. What matters over a long day is being held without pressure points: no heel slip, no compression across the widest part of the foot, about a thumb's width at the toe. Very soft, unstructured shoes often feel best in the first hour and worst by the end.
