Cotton tees shrink slightly on their first hot wash, and the shrinkage is mostly in length. Washing cold and drying flat or on a line keeps the shape you bought for longer than a tumble dryer will.
Line drying is kinder than tumble drying for anything with a print or a ribbed neck. Heat is what relaxes a collar into that stretched shape long before the fabric itself wears out.
