Everyday shoes spend most of their life walking at moderate pace and standing still, not running. That changes the priorities: comfort across hours rather than impact absorption, an outsole that copes with footpaths and wet tiles, and an upper that still looks reasonable after months of daily wear.
Canvas is light and breathable but slow to dry and better suited to dry weather, and it creases rather than scuffs. Leather and leather-look uppers hold their shape, clean up more easily and cope better with rain, at the cost of breathability. Knit and synthetic uppers are lightest and usually the first to show wear at the flex points.
